BSTT

Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors Course

The Course is based on the precepts established by its founder Dr. Henry J. Mankin and is supported by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (www.msts.org). Many of the faculty are MSTS members and include leaders of its standing committees and president of the society.

The course offers to all multidisciplinary sarcoma team greater knowledge of the scientific basis of musculoskeletal pathology, in which the roles of the orthopaedic surgeon, pathologist and radiologist overlap. This is complemented by the range of different treatment options, both general (medical oncology) and local (orthopaedic oncology surgery, radiation oncology and reconstructive and reparative surgery.

This course was recorded during the 9th BSTT Madrid Course.

BSTT ONLINE COURSE enrolment fee: 200€
Students of the online course will receive a discount of 100€ to attend the next course: BSTT MADRID COURSE, holded in Madrid Spain in February 2025, at the time of enrolment. The discount will be applied to the corresponding fee.

Dr. Henry Mankin

COURSE PROGRAMME

This course program is divided into 4 parts:

1. MUSCULOESKELETAL TUMORS: THE FOUNDATION

The chapter we’re starting with the bases of musculoskeletal tumors, from the histological, biological, molecular and radiological point of view. Then we continue with the multidisciplinary approach and then we begin with the description of the most frequent bone tumors.

2. BONE AND JOINT TUMORS AND TUMOR-LIKE LESIONS

We continue with the description of the most frequent bone tumors, but already on this day medical oncology is joined to offer its vision of the treatment of the Giant Cell Tumor and the Ewing`s Sarcoma and the Associations of patients with sarcomas tell us their projects.

we began with the dynamic presentation of clinical cases from the multidisciplinary point of view. Then the description of the local treatments (surgery and radiotherapy) begins.

3. SOFT TISSUE TUMORS

The study of soft tissue sarcomas is initiated in the course, from the point of view of the state of the art classification, diagnosis and radiological follow-up and its local treatments (surgery and radiotherapy) and medical oncology treatments.

A dynamic presentation of cases is made and then continues with the lectures on rhabdomyosarcoma, new treatments for chemo resistant sarcomas and fibromatosis, in which the controversial handling will be discussed.

4. MISCELLANEUS

It is a surgical part, but not for that reason multidisciplinary and very interesting to complete and finish the BSTT COURSE. In this last part of the course we will deal with interesting topics such as the description of radiolucent nails, which is useful for radiological follow-up and radiotherapy planning. Before talking about surgical complications, a very fascinating topic is Pathologic Fractures in children.
